The ability to move transactions between campaigns provides greater flexibility in organizing your fundraising data, ensures gifts are attributed correctly, and maintains campaign consistency. You can reassign both one‑time and recurring gifts to the correct campaign quickly and accurately, provided a few requirements are met.
Requirements ✅
Your account must be on single-balance payouts (not per-campaign payouts).
Single-balance payouts are free, and using Givebutter Wallet is not required. Learn how to upgrade to single-balance payouts →
The transaction you wish to reassign to a different campaign must not be tied to a ticket sale or auction item (or a combination such as a donation plus ticket).
The campaign you move the transaction into must exist in your account and be valid for that sort of transaction (for example, it must be actively accepting transactions).
Moving a transaction 💰
In your Givebutter dashboard, go to the Transactions page.
Locate the transaction you wish to move to a new campaign. Click on the white space to the right of the donor's name to open the sidebar.
Click the edit icon located next to the Campaign heading.
If you cannot click the edit icon, check that the transaction is not tied to a ticket/auction item and that your account is on single‑balance payouts.
Under Reassign campaign, select the campaign you want to move this transaction to. Click Save. The transaction will now be credited to the selected campaign.
Moving recurring plans 🔁
You can move transactions to new campaigns in multiple ways for recurring plans. This includes:
One transaction ☝️
This option allows you to move one transaction without affecting any other transactions on the recurring plan, including past or future transactions.
On your Transactions page, locate the specific occurrence of the recurring gift. Click on the white space to the right of the donor's name to open the transaction sidebar.
Future transactions 🔮
This option allows you to move all future (upcoming) transactions associated with a recurring plan, without affecting transactions that have already been made.
In your dashboard, navigate to your Transactions page, and click on the Recurring Plans tab at the top.
Locate the plan you wish to move, and click into it.
Click the edit icon located next to the Campaign heading. If you cannot click the edit icon, check that the transaction is not tied to a ticket/auction item and that your account is on single‑balance payouts.
Under Reassign campaign, select the campaign you want to move this transaction to. Under Update recurring transactions, select Update future transactions in this plan.
Click Save.
An entire recurring plan 👐
This option allows you to move all past donations on a recurring plan that qualify (those without campaign-specific assets, such as tickets or auction items), plus all future transactions on that recurring plan.
Under Update recurring transactions, select Update all transactions in this plan.
Click Save.
FAQ 🤔
Why can't I move a transaction? The option isn't available.
If the option to move a transaction to a new campaign isn't available, ensure your account has single-balance payouts first. If single-balance payouts are already enabled, it's likely ineligible because of an associated auction item or ticket purchase. This includes a donation, as well as the purchase of a ticket or auction item. These transactions can't be moved to a new campaign because the ticket or item is linked to the original campaign to which it was submitted.
Will donors be notified when their gift is reassigned?
There is no change to the donor‑facing receipt or notification simply by moving the campaign. It’s an internal reassignment. If you wish to communicate with donors, you may choose to send an email externally.
Will exports/reports and public-facing campaign totals reflect the change?
Yes! Once saved, a transaction will count toward the new campaign’s totals. However, if you selected “All transactions” for a plan, and past ineligible gifts were skipped, totals may differ from your expectations. Consider exporting a report before and after the change to verify.
