Major mobile network carriers have recently changed their compliance requirements, which means all organizations that want to send outbound SMS messages through Givebutter's Engage feature must be registered with those carriers in order to be 10DLC compliant.
This is an industry-wide requirement with a deadline of July 31st, 2023. If you are not registered, you will no longer be able to send outbound SMS messages through Engage.
About 10DLC compliance ๐ฑ
10DLC refers to local (specified area code) phone numbers that are pre-approved by mobile network operators for application-to-person SMS messaging. To be compliant, your number must be registered with The Campaign Registry via a verified 10DLC brand, like Givebutter. The Campaign Registry works with North American mobile operators and companies to register Application-to-Person (A2P) text messaging campaigns. Benefits of 10DLC compliance include:
Higher deliverability rates for your messages
Mobile network carriers have strict filters for application-to-person messaging to protect consumers from spam and fraudulent messages. Non-compliant (unregistered) messages are often flagged by these filters, resulting in low deliverability rates. If you're 10DLC-registered, messages are less likely to be marked as spam.
Better security
10DLC compliance serves as verification that messages sent by a registered organization are legitimate and credible. This benefits message recipients, as they are protected from spam and fraud, and it also benefits your organization, as it increases trust.
How to register ๐
We've made it easy to register a 10DLC-compliant SMS number in Engage! You'll be walked through a four-step process:
Once your nonprofit is verified, Givebutter will pull your organization's information to auto-complete the 10DLC application in your account.
Please note that only verified nonprofit accounts on Givebutter are eligible for activating outbound SMS at this time.
2. Submit your 10DLC application
Go to Engage, and click Settings in the upper right corner.
Select SMS Numbers in the sub-menu on the left side of the page.
Click Submit application to send your registration application. Turnaround time for applications is estimated to take 2-7 days, subject to change. After your application is approved, Givebutter will send you an email letting you know.
If you already have an SMS number set in Engage, you'll be prompted to remove it before you can submit your application.
3. Select a phone number (10DLC)
After your application is approved, you will be prompted to select a 10DLC-compliant phone number to use in Engage.
As a result of this update, outbound SMS message stats are getting an upgrade! Bounce stats and deliverability rates will now be more accurate, and updated faster in your account.
For existing users
If you have an existing phone number set in Engage, you will need to follow the above steps before July 31, 2023 to ensure continuity of Engage SMS. If you miss the deadline, you will not be able to send outbound SMS messages until you register.
You will need to remove your existing Engage SMS number before you can proceed with registration for a new, 10DLC number.
