Does Givebutter issue tax receipts?

Givebutter automatically issues donation receipts to donors, which can be customized with a message to include tax-pertinent information

If the beneficiary (recipient of funds) of your fundraising campaign has 501c3 non-profit status, you can optionally add tax-pertinent information to the automatically generated thank-you message, such as:

  • A statement that no goods or services were provided by the organization in exchange for the contribution (if that was the case)
  • A statement that the organization is a 501c3 tax-exempt organization

Every donor to your campaign will receive this message immediately after donating both on the campaign page and via email.

Example Thank-you Messages / Acknowledgements

If the donor is NOT receiving goods or services in return for their donation:
“Thank you for your generous contribution! Your donation is supporting (cause). No goods or services were provided in exchange for this contribution. (Beneficiary name) is an exempt organization as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; (EIN ##).”

If the donor IS receiving goods or services in return for their donation:
“Thank you for your generous contribution! Your donation is supporting (cause). The fair market value of (goods/service) is (amount), and only the portion of your donation that exceeds this fair market value may be deducted. (Beneficiary name) is an exempt organization as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; (EIN ##).”
