Available payment methods πŸ’°

Givebutter automatically allows you to process payments via all major credit and debit cards, PayPal, Venmo, Cash App Pay, DAFs, ACH, and digital wallets like Apple and Google, without any technical overhead or merchant account setup necessary. You can also log offline transactions paid by cash, check, in-kind, stock, property, or other payment, as well as manually enable and disable select payment methods.

Card Payments πŸ’³

All major cards are supported, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover, and Diners Club. It is not possible to disable card payments as a payment option.

Venmo πŸ’™

To donate using Venmo on a mobile device, donors must have the Venmo app installed and access your campaign from the native browser for that device (Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android.) Venmo will display as a payment option on all desktop computers, as long as the browser is up-to-date. Venmo can be disabled if you would like to remove it.

Venmo will not appear as an option if:

  • You aren't logged into the Venmo app on your mobile device.

  • You don't have a payment method linked on the app.

  • A recurring donation is selected. Recurring plans are not compatible with Venmo at this time.

  • You're accessing the campaign via Widget embed on a mobile device. Please access the Givebutter campaign directly, or view the embedded Widget on a desktop site.

Cash App Pay βœ…

Cash App Pay allows donors to complete payments using their Cash App balance or linked debit card for both one-time donations and recurring plans. It does not support pledge or auction payments, and you cannot import Cash App Pay transactions.

On mobile devices, donors can pay directly through the Cash App Pay interface with just a few taps. On desktop, donors can scan a QR code to connect to Cash App Pay on their mobile device for secure payment processing. Cash App Pay can be disabled if you would like to remove it.

Cash App Pay will not appear as an option if:

  • You're located outside the United States. Cash App Pay is currently available for USD transactions and US-based supporters only.

  • A donor doesn't have Cash App installed on their mobile device.

  • You're attempting payment for a pledge or auction payment.

Paypal πŸ’»

All donors are displayed with the option to donate with PayPal. PayPal can be disabled if you would like to remove it.

Digital Wallet πŸ“±

Digital wallet options will automatically be displayed based on browser and availability. It is not possible to disable digital wallet payment options.

  • Google Pay

    • Appears on mobile, and on desktop Chrome browsers (Chrome must be updated to the latest version, and the Google Pay browser extension installed, with their account linked to their mobile device)

  • Apple Pay

    • Appears on mobile and desktop Safari browsers, and Google Chrome with the latest iOS version. Please note that Apple Pay will not appear in a Widget embed, as limitations set by Apple prevent it from being used in iFrames.

For Digital Wallet options to appear, donors must have a valid payment method linked to their respective wallet, and they must be visiting the site from a supported browser. Recurring donations are not compatible with Digital Wallets at this time.

ACH Payments 🏦

Automated Clearing House (ACH) is available to any account that meets these criteria. ACH payments do not have a minimum donation amount and can be used with one-time and recurring donation plans. ACH can be disabled if you would like to remove it.

ACH is activated automatically for all verified nonprofit accounts.

Offline Payments πŸ’Έ

You can also allow donors to give using offline payment methods! Payment by check can be configured per-campaign, and selected by donors. A field is provided for entering mailing instructions for check donations.

From the dashboard, admins can additionally record cash, check, in-kind, stock, and property payments. (Donors cannot select these options themselves.) Please see our instructions for how to enter offline payments via the Transactions page, or a contact page.

Auction items cannot yet be paid for by check or cash. Please see our offline auction payment feature request for more information, and add a vote if this is a feature you are interested in!

Offline payments are not included in Givebutter payouts because they are manually deposited by admins. No processing of offline donations takes place by Givebutter.

DAFs πŸ’°

Givebutter’s Donor-Advised Fund payment method is available for verified nonprofit accounts via DAFpay powered by Chariot. DAFpay must be manually enabled to appear.

Editing payment methods βš™οΈ

All relevant payment methods will appear in your campaign's checkout process as applicable, but you can also manually enable or disable payment methods if you prefer.
