If you need to reassign a transaction for example, due to a donor submission error, you can do so from the original contact's profile. You can reassign a transaction from an individual contact to a company contact, and vice versa. We recommend reassigning a transaction from the Contacts page.
In this guide, "original contact" refers to the individual or company to which the transaction is currently credited. This doesn't necessarily mean that this contact initially submitted the donation/transaction.
From the Contacts page 👤
In your Givebutter dashboard, navigate to the Contacts page. This will default to the Individuals tab. If you're looking for a company contact, make sure you click on the Companies tab.
Locate and click on the original contact.
If the original contact is an individual, you'll be taken directly to the contact profile's Activity Feed. If the original contact is a company, you'll need to click on the Activity tab once you're viewing the contact profile. Transactions from this contact will be listed in chronological order.
Click the three dots [...] on the right side of the transaction you want to reassign to a different contact, then click Reassign transaction.
In the popup window, you can search for an existing contact, or create a new one. You can reassign transactions to both individual and company contact types.
Click Assign at the bottom of the popup window to confirm your selection. Once a transaction is reassigned, it will be removed from the original contact's contact profile and added to the new contact's profile.
From the Transactions page 💳
If you have a transaction number as a reference (or aren't sure exactly who the original contact is), you can also initiate reassigning a transaction from the Transactions page.
You cannot currently reassign a contact directly from the transaction itself. The reassignment must be completed from the contact profile.
On your Transactions page, locate the transaction you'd like to reassign and click directly on the original contact's name. This will take you to the original contact's profile.

Payment details 💳
A transaction's original payment information will remain with the transaction. Reassigning a transaction doesn't remove or change the payment details logged for that transaction.
Example: Mr. Butter submits a $100 transaction on behalf of his employer using his own credit card. A campaign admin reassigns the transaction to Rosa's Flower Shop (a company contact).
The hard credit of $100 is reassigned to Rosa's Flower Shop, but the payment details logged will still include Mr. Butter's name, billing address, and last 4 digits of his card number.
