All fundraisers on Givebutter have Venmo automatically built-in as a payment option for donors, without any extra setup. πŸŽ‰

You do not need to link a Venmo account in order to accept Venmo donations!

Venmo donations are treated like any other donation on Givebutter, and they are processed the same way. These funds can be withdrawn directly from your Givebutter Payouts page, along with all other funds raised. Your own Venmo account is not involved.

Want to try it out? See Venmo in action by going through the donation flow on our demo campaign.

Please note that Venmo cannot be used for recurring plans at this time.

Donating with Venmo πŸ’°

  • At the end of the checkout process, select Venmo as the payment method.

    • If you are on a computer, you will be prompted to open Venmo on your mobile device to complete the donation via a custom QR code. If Venmo isn't appearing as an option, head to our FAQ for some pointers.

  • You will be redirected to authorize Givebutter on the Venmo app. Click Agree & continue.

The Venmo authorization screen will mention "future purchases" even if you are submitting a one-time donation. This validates that the connection to Givebutter is intentional and approved by you. You will only be charged for the single donation you are submitting in this checkout flow.

FAQ πŸ€”

Why isn't Venmo showing up as a payment option?
Givebutter payment methods are dynamic, which means that specific options only display when relevant. There are a few reasons why Venmo might not be appearing:

  • On mobile devices, you'll need to access the campaign page from your device's default browser in order for Venmo to appear as a payment option.

    • For iOS devices, use Safari. For Android devices, use Chrome.

  • You must have the Venmo application downloaded on your device.

  • You must be logged in to Venmo on your device.

  • You must have a valid source of funds connected to your Venmo account.

  • A recurring plan is selected – Venmo is not compatible with recurring donations.

  • You're accessing the checkout via an iFrame embed. Venmo is not supported in iFrame embeds.

My organization doesn't use Venmo. Can we still accept Venmo donations?

Yes! You do not need to have or connect a Venmo account to Givebutter to accept Venmo donations. Venmo is simply another payment option presented to donors – these donations are processed the same way as all other payment methods.

Can I donate directly via the Venmo app?

No – the only way to donate using Venmo is through a Givebutter campaign, which is compatible with all mobile web browsers. You cannot donate to a Givebutter campaign directly from the Venmo app. If a donation is submitted via the Venmo app, our system has no way of detecting this or connecting it to the relevant account.

Can I remove Venmo as a payment option?

Yes – you can remove Venmo from all campaigns on your account by configuring your payment settings.
