Getting Started with Tags
Tags are labels you create to help organize your Contacts. Tags are entirely customizable and let you bring your organization's structure into Givebutter. Label supporters based on data you know about them, then filter by tags and export your tag data.
Think of tags as labels for your Contacts that help you stay organized. Tags are a great way to create Segments for targeted donor engagement because tags are a way for you to label or categorize your donors based on the information you have about them.
How to use tags
Tags are completely customizable, so you can use them however you'd like. It might make sense for you to create a comprehensive tagging structure to organize all your donors, or you might need a few tags as a lightweight way to identify some key contacts. Either way, the function of these tags gives you the flexibility to design a system that works for your account.
Create and add a tag
To create a new tag to apply to a Contact, follow these steps:
Navigate into a Contact you'd like to tag.
Click Add Tag or (...) > Edit if an existing tag is applied to the Contact.
Start typing into the Tags field to search existing tags OR for a new tag, type the name, then press Enter to create the tag.
Press Save Changes
Remove a tag
To remove a tag, press the X next to the tag you'd like to remove from the Contact and press Save Changes.
Add or remove tags from multiple Contacts.
Select multiple contacts and add or remove tags, or create a new tag to apply to the group.
Click the Contacts tab.
Search for or apply a filter to the Contacts you want to tag
Select the Contacts you want to add/remove the tag to/from.
Click Actions > Add tags / Remove tags.
Start typing the name of the tag you want to apply, and when it displays, select it from the drop-down menu. You can add multiple tags at once and even create new ones at the same time.
For a new Tag, type the name, then press Enter to create the tag.
View or filter by tags
You can view all the tags added to a specific contact on their contact profile page.
Filter contacts by tags
After you've added tags to contacts, you can filter your contact table by tags.
Click the Add Filter + drop-down menu.
Choose if you'd like to filter Contacts by All, Any, or None of the following tags.
Choose the name of the tag you want to filter by or search for a tag. To filter by more than one tag, choose an additional tag. Click the X icon inside a tag to remove it from your filter
Click the X icon in the upper-right corner of the table to clear your entire filter and start over.
You can also add additional Filters to create a targeted Segment.
