Engage automatically keeps track of your outbound message statistics so you can see who has opened your messages, unsubscribed, or successfully submitted a transaction as a result of your communications.
Viewing message data 👀
You can find your outbound message stats in your Givebutter dashboard. First, head to Engage, located in the left-hand menu bar.
You’ll be directed to the Sent page. Locate the email you want to view outbound statistics for and click anywhere to view the details of the selected email.
Message stats 📈
After expanding a message, you’ll see the total number of contacts it was sent to, message details, and key performance metrics such as Revenue Generated, Open Rate, Click to Open Rate, Bounces, and Unsubscribes. Engage messages also track revenue generated when a recipient supports your campaign after receiving an email or SMS.
Opened – Number and percentage of recipients who opened the message successfully.
Bounced – Number and percentage of recipients the message could not reach because of an invalid email address/phone number, or some other issue.
Emails resulting in a "hard bounce" are automatically marked as unsubscribed by our system. (Undeliverable SMS messages do not affect SMS subscription status.)
Unsubscribed – Number and percentage of recipients who unsubscribed to your email messages (using the Unsubscribe here option at the bottom of all emails), or emails that bounced and were automatically unsubscribed by our system.
Recipient List 👥
In the Recipient list, you can view detailed statuses for each message, including which recipients opened your email, which emails bounced, and who supported your campaign as a result of the email.
You can also filter the results by Status or Contribution. Just click the filter and select the status or contribution amount you’d like to view.

Status definitions 🔎
For outbound email messages, the status options include:
Opened – The recipient opened the email successfully.
Bounced – The email could not reach the recipient because of an invalid email address or another issue. Results in an unsubscribe.
Unopened – The recipient did not interact with the email.
Clicked – The recipient opened the email and clicked on a link in the email.
Please note that if you include multiple links in an email, we do not have a way of tracking which link they clicked on specifically.
Unsubscribed – The recipient unsubscribed to your email messages (using the unsubscribe option at the bottom of all emails), or the message bounced and was automatically unsubscribed by our system.
Supported – The recipient opened the email and submitted a donation directly as a result of your message.
For outbound SMS messages, the status options include:
Sent – The SMS has been forwarded to the network provider/carrier. It will be processed for delivery to the recipient number, but it may not have reached the recipient yet.
Delivered – The SMS has successfully reached the recipient's device.
Clicked – The recipient opened the SMS message and clicked on a link in the message.
Bounced – The SMS could not reach the recipient because of an invalid phone number or a carrier issue. Results in an unsubscribe.
Supported – The recipient opened the SMS message and submitted a donation directly as a result of your message.
Unsubscribed – The recipient unsubscribed to your SMS messages (using the STOP reply option included in all SMS messages), or the SMS bounced and was automatically unsubscribed by our system.
Contribution filter
Use the Contribution filter to find recipients based on the amount they contributed after receiving the message. You can filter contributions by conditions such as:
Greater than
Less than
Equal to
Enter the amount you want to filter by, and the recipient list will update to show matching results.
FAQ 🤔
Someone was marked as unsubscribed, but they never received the message!
This is probably because the message also bounced! A bounce will also result in an unsubscribe since the message was marked undeliverable. Please double-check the email address or phone number on file and use an alternative if possible.
Can I export my Engage message statistics?
Yes! You can now export the stats for each Engage email message. To do this, open the message and click Export on the right side of the search bar.
If you’d like to be able to export cumulative Engage stats across all sends, please see this feature request and add a vote.
What's the difference between Delivered and Sent?
Delivered means that the message has successfully reached the recipient, while Sent means that the process has been initiated, but it might still be in progress. If a message is displaying as Sent, we haven't gotten confirmation that it's been successfully received yet.
What are your deliverability rates?
Our email deliverability rates are 99% for valid email addresses.
