About Magic campaigns 🪄

Magic campaigns reduce the overwhelm of getting started by turning your organization's existing information into a ready-to-edit draft, so you never have to build from scratch. By entering a few key details (like your website and EIN), we use public information about your organization to automatically generate a pre-filled campaign that you can review, customize, and publish when you're ready, making it easier to refine and personalize rather than start from the ground up.

This feature only triggers during the account setup process. If you'd like to see this option more widely available, let us know! We'd love your feedback.

How it works 🔍

  • When signing up for your new Givebutter account, you'll enter a few key details about your organization, such as your website and EIN. You do not need to be a verified nonprofit account.

  • Create your first campaign, and we'll automatically generate a draft tailored to your organization using publicly available data, including content, visuals, and relevant data points.

  • We'll also pull in relevant data to pre-fill your organization's profile information, including public contact information, branding, and logos.

  • Review the pre-filled draft or customize it to your liking, then publish when you're ready!

This feature only utilizes publicly available content sourced from your organization's website and nonprofit information. No private account data is accessed or used to generate campaign drafts or pre-fill account information.

Draft a campaign ✨

When you create your Givebutter account, you'll be guided through a short setup where you enter some basic information about your organization, such as your website. Once you're logged into your dashboard, simply create your first campaign to see the magic; a pre-filled draft automatically generated based on the information you provided during signup!

If needed, you may also be prompted to confirm or add additional details to improve the quality of your draft. Your campaign will remain unpublished at this stage, giving you time to review and make changes before going live.

Magic campaigns are designed to help you get started with Givebutter, but this feature applies to your first campaign only! Subsequent campaigns will begin blank, giving you full control as you grow more comfortable with our platform.

Suggested goals 🎯

As part of your draft, Magic campaigns provide a suggested fundraising goal tailored to your organization. This recommendation is based on factors like your organization type and available public data, as well as insights drawn from similar successful campaigns on Givebutter. We'll encourage you to set an ambitious goal (campaigns that aim high tend to raise more!) but you're always in control of the final goal you go live with.

Updating your website 🔄

If your draft doesn’t look quite right, it may be because the wrong website was entered or our system wasn’t able to confidently match your organization, especially if there are multiple chapters or similar organizations.

If that happens, don’t worry! You can clear the draft and start fresh, or indicate that the organization information is incorrect and re-enter your details to generate a new version. This ensures you’re always working with a campaign that accurately reflects your organization.

Edit and publish ✏️

Magic campaigns are never automatically published, and nothing goes live until you say so. When you're ready to finalize your campaign, you can:

  • Edit or replace any pre-filled content

  • Update images and branding

  • Adjust your fundraising goal

  • Rewrite your story or campaign description

⚠️ Before you publish: Pre-filled content is generated automatically and may not always be perfectly accurate. Please review drafted content (including organization details, campaign description, and any images) before going live.

Once everything looks the way you want, you can publish your campaign at any time.

Organization information 📋

Magic campaigns pre-fill key elements of your campaign draft to give you a meaningful head start – the same goes for your organizational profile! We'll populate it with publicly available information, including your logo, branding, social links, mission statement, and contact information. Any pre-filled fields are marked with a blue dot for easy review and editing.

Why is my draft or account information incomplete?

If your draft is missing information or doesn't look quite right, it's likely because our system wasn't able to confidently match your organization to publicly available data. This can happen if multiple chapters or similarly named organizations exist. If that's the case, you can clear the draft and re-enter your details to generate a new version, or simply fill in any missing information manually.

How do you find my organization's information?

Givebutter only uses publicly available information sourced from your organization's website and nonprofit records. No private account data is ever accessed or used. We never pull in anything that isn't already publicly available, so your private information stays private.

Wow, how easy! Can I use this for all of my campaigns?

Sorry, but magic campaigns applies to your first campaign only! Subsequent campaigns will start blank, giving you full creative control as you get more comfortable with the platform.

Will Givebutter automatically publish my campaign?

Never. Your draft will not go live until you choose to publish it, and no information is shared publicly without your explicit approval. You'll always have the opportunity to review, edit, and finalize every detail of your campaign before it's visible to donors.
