About fiscal sponsorship ☂️
Fiscal sponsorship is a legal and financial arrangement in which a nonprofit organization (the fiscal sponsor) offers its legal and tax-exempt status to another group, chapter, or project (the sponsored organization), typically one that has not yet obtained its own nonprofit status.
In order to support fiscally sponsored organizations, Givebutter allows multiple accounts to share the same EIN when verifying. Depending on the setup of your particular organization, this may be referred to as:
Fiscal or Umbrella sponsorship
Having a Parent EIN or Shared EIN
Chapter of a larger organization
If your sponsor or parent organization doesn’t use Givebutter, you can still verify as a fiscally sponsored nonprofit account!
Benefits of verification ✅
Verified accounts have access to additional features and functionality in Givebutter, including a verified status badge and EIN on their campaign pages and receipts. View all benefits of verifying →
Limitations ⛔
Fiscally sponsored organizations do not have access to:
48-hour pending period – transactions will still have a 72-hour pending period
ACH payments
Engage (Emails) – not activated automatically, must request access
Engage (SMS)
How it works 🔍

In the sub-menu, click Account Verification, and you'll see Verify your nonprofit under Step 3. Check the box to indicate that you are a legal or authorized representative of the nonprofit you would like to verify under.
Click Get Started.
Enter your sponsor/parent organization's EIN and click Submit.
Once the request has been reviewed by our team, the Givebutter user who submitted the request will be notified via email (approval or denial).
Please note that verification typically takes several business days to complete. Our team will contact you as soon as possible.
FAQ 🤔
My sponsor or parent organization doesn't use Givebutter. Can I still verify my account?
Yes! You can verify your fiscally sponsored organization even if the sponsor is not on Givebutter. You must still indicate via the checkbox that you are not the parent organization or sponsor.
Does our fiscally sponsored organization need a separate Stripe Express account to process payouts?
Each Givebutter account needs its own Stripe Express account to process payouts, which applies regardless of your sponsor or parent organization.
Can we use the same bank information as our sponsor or parent nonprofit?
You can use the same bank information as your parent or sponsor organization to receive payouts. This is not restricted to use by one account.
