You can send a short thank-you video to your supporters, without external recording features or copying and pasting links. This feature is conveniently available from available from individual contact profiles, specific transactions, and the Video Messages tab in Engage, so you can personally acknowledge your donors. Every send and view stays attached to the donor's profile, so your team has a record of who's been personally thanked.
You can also use a previously recorded message from your video library instead of starting from scratch each time.
Record a video 🎬
You can initiate a video message from a few locations:
From the Transactions page, open a specific transaction.
From the Contacts page, open a contact's profile.
From the Engage page, open the Video Messages tab.
Click Send video in the upper right corner.
In the popup window, you can choose to record a new video, select a saved video from your library, or upload a new video (MP4, MOV, or WebM).
Your browser may prompt you to grant permission to use the camera and microphone. You must allow access before the video camera will load.
Click the red button to begin recording your video. You can record up to 2 minutes, indicated with a countdown timer. Click the red button again to stop recording when you're done.
You can preview your video and trim the start and end by dragging the trim handles on either side of the timeline. If you want to start over, click Re-record. To send your video, click Looks good.
On the next screen, you'll confirm your video message details before sending:
From – Select which Engage sender address this message will be sent from.
Subject – Customize a subject line.
Message – Customize a message to your supporter (this will include a generic message by default).
Add button – Optionally add a customizable call-to-action button below your video. This can link to one of your Givebutter campaigns, or a custom URL.
Click Save draft to save the message for later, or click Send video. Video messages can take a few minutes to send. The status of a video will be indicated on the Video Messages tab on your Engage page.
If you'd like to preview the message your supporter will see, click Preview page in the upper right corner, above your email preview.
What your supporter sees 💌
The donor receives an email announcing that your organization sent them a personal video message. Clicking the video thumbnail opens a hosted page with the video player, captions, and your organization's branding, along with an optional call-to-action link below the video. Supporters don't need to log in, download anything, or create an account to watch. They can also click an emoji reaction in reply.
Tracking views 📊
Every video message you send is logged to the donor's activity feed on their contact profile, so your team can see:
When the video was sent, and by whom
Whether the donor opened and watched it
Any emoji reaction the donor left
Previewing your own video from the dashboard doesn't count as a donor "view". Only opens from the donor's email are tracked as watched.

Can I upload a video I already have saved on my computer?
Yes – from the recording screen, choose to upload a pre-recorded video instead of recording live.
Can donors reply to a video message?
No, video messages are a one-way thank-you, with an optional reaction from the donor. There's no conversation thread or a way for the donor to reply back with text.
Who on my team can record and send videos?
Access follows your organization's existing Roles and Permissions setup.
