Once this option is enabled, donors can select to pay by check on any type of campaign. Check payment will appear as an option for one-time payments. Recurring plans do not support offline payments.

Like all other transactions on Givebutter, donors who pay by check will receive anΒ automated receipt. When a donor opts to mail in a check, no payment processing fees or platform fees are incurred because no processing takes place online.

Admins can also log offline donations manually from the dashboard. This is ideal if you don't want to offer this option to donors but wish to log offline payments for your campaign. Learn about managing offline donations β†’

Enabling check payments βž•

  • In your dashboard, select the campaign you'd like to enable check payments for from the Campaigns tab.

  • Click on the Tools tab and locate the first section called Payment settings.

  • Toggle on the option to Allow supporters to select to pay via check.

  • Add Check mailing instructions. This should include an address or location to send or deliver checks to, along with any special instructions. This is a required field.

  • Save your changes when you're done!

The total pledged check amount will automatically be added to your campaign's public goal total. It is your responsibility to follow up with your supporters to make sure the check is received.

Offline donations are received directly by the organization and are therefore not paid out by Givebutter. To see which donations were offline, you can sort by payment method in your Transactions page. Additionally, the payment method is included as a column on a Transactions CSV Export.

FAQ πŸ€”

What if a supporter pays by check but never sends a check to pay?

If someone enters a check payment on your campaign but your organization never receives their check payment, you can delete an offline transaction in your dashboard. If any tickets were purchased on the transaction, you can also revoke these.

I enabled the check option, but it's not appearing on my campaign.

Your campaign's default donation frequency might be set to a recurring option, such as monthly, quarterly, or yearly. Double-check that you've selected a one-time donation rather than a recurring option, and check should appear as an option.

I want to enter a check payment, but I don't want the option to be available for donors to select it themselves.

No problem! You don't need to enable check payments publicly to enter an offline payment via check or cash. All you need to do is add a new transaction manually from your Transactions page.
